Argentina Restores Sodium Methoxide Import for Industrial Sector

The Argentine Government has reversed the exclusion of sodium methoxide from the temporary import regime and re-enabled the import of this input into the country for industrial processing with the obligation of re-exportation, according to the Argentine News Agency. The measure was formalized through Resolution 52/2026 of the Secretariat of Industry and Commerce, which repealed Resolution 171/2014 of the then Secretariat of Commerce, which had removed the product from the special regime. Sodium methoxide, classified under Mercosur Common Nomenclature tariff position 3824.90.85, can thus be temporarily imported again under Decree 1330/2004, which regulates the scheme. In the considerations, the economic portfolio recalled that temporary importation is a tool to stimulate industrial activity and exports, and argued that the return of the product to the regime aims to give greater competitiveness to the exporting sector. The resolution instructs the General Directorate of Customs, dependent on the Revenue and Customs Control Agency, to operationalize the changes in the treatment of the chemical input. The norm, signed by the Secretary of Production Coordination, Pablo Agustín Lavigne, will come into effect the day after its publication in the Official Gazette, confirmed the Argentine News Agency.
